Most linen budgets leak in the same three places

Textiles are replaced too early because the wash is too aggressive. Stock is either too thin, causing panic purchases, or too deep, tying up capital. And nobody owns the numbers, so the annual replacement spend arrives as a surprise. Consulting exists to fix those three things, and it usually pays for itself in the first year.

We work with properties that outsource, properties that wash in house, and properties doing both. We are not trying to sell you a laundry contract at the end of it — several of our consulting clients wash their own linen and always will.

The linen audit

We come to the property and look at what you actually have. Stock counted by category and condition. Fabric composition, weight and construction against what the job demands. Age and wear pattern — because how a towel fails tells you what is wrong upstream. Storage and handling, which damages more linen than most managers expect. And the real circulating quantity against the par level you think you have.

The output is a written picture of your textile estate: what is serviceable, what is at end of life, what was the wrong specification when it was bought, and what it is costing you per room or per cover.

Process and programme review

If you wash in house, we review the wash programmes against the fabrics and the water: temperature curves, chemical dosing, mechanical action, drying temperatures and finishing. Over-drying is the most common single cause of premature terry failure and one of the easiest to fix.

If you outsource, we review what you are receiving: batch quality, stain return rate, damage rate, delivery accuracy and whether the rate you are paying matches the mix you are sending. Being on the wrong side of a fabric-mix assumption is a quiet, expensive place to sit.

Par levels and stock planning

We calculate the circulating stock your property actually needs, by category, against peak and shoulder occupancy — then plan replacement as a schedule rather than an emergency. For seasonal properties on the coast, this also means deciding what to hold through the winter and what to rent for the peak. If renting turns out to be the better model, our linen rental service is one option, but so are others, and we will say so.

Sustainability that is also cheaper

Water, energy and chemical consumption per kilogram; textile lifespan; and the replacement volume you send to waste each year. These are the same numbers, viewed twice. Extending linen life by a year cuts both spend and waste, and it is achieved through calibration, not slogans. Where you need it, we help document consumption for environmental reporting and certification schemes.

What you get

A written report with the audit findings, a costed action plan in priority order with an expected payback for each item, revised specifications where textiles were wrongly chosen, and — where relevant — revised wash programmes and dosing. Then a follow-up visit to check the numbers moved.
