A residential care home runs two laundry operations at once. Flat linen — sheets, towels, blankets — behaves like hotel volume with a healthcare wash. Residents’ personal clothing behaves like nothing else: small quantities, hundreds of owners, delicate and mixed fabrics, and a level of emotional weight that makes a lost cardigan a genuine complaint rather than an administrative one.
We treat them as two separate flows through the plant, because they fail in different ways.
Flat linen
Bed linen, draw sheets, incontinence-protection textiles, towels, facecloths, blankets and bedspreads, plus staff uniforms. All of it runs a validated disinfection programme with the same clean–dirty separation and batch documentation we apply for hospitals. Heavily soiled items go through pre-treatment rather than being written off.
Residents’ personal clothing
Personal items are received, identified and tracked individually. We work with the labelling system your home already uses — sewn-in, heat-sealed or barcode — or help you introduce one where none exists, because traceability is the whole game. Garments are sorted by fabric and colour, washed on programmes chosen for the item rather than the batch, finished appropriately, and returned sorted by resident and by room.
Items that are wearing out are flagged to your staff rather than returned quietly, so families can be told before something is lost to age rather than to the laundry.
Dignity is an operational requirement
Clothing that comes back shrunk, faded or belonging to somebody else affects a resident directly and reaches the family the same week. The systems that prevent it are unglamorous: individual identification, conservative wash programmes for personal items, sorting by room, and a named contact at our end who resolves a query the same day.
Reliability and cost
Collections run on fixed days, typically daily or every other day given how quickly care-home linen turns over, with 24 to 48 hour turnaround. Indicative pricing sits in the €1.50 to €1.95 per kilogram range for flat linen; personal clothing is usually quoted per resident per week, which is a simpler line for your budget and easier to explain to families.
If you launder in house
Many homes keep a laundry room and want it to work better rather than to disappear. We supply and install suitable machines — including barrier washers — through laundry equipment, keep them running through technical service, and supply validated disinfection chemistry and dosing through laundry chemicals. A textile care audit is usually the right first step.

How much does industrial laundry cost per kilogram?
Commercial laundry in Italy is priced per kilogram of clean, dry textile. As an indication for the Rimini and Riccione area: hotel bed linen and terry €1.15–1.45/kg, restaurant table linen €1.40–1.85/kg, healthcare textiles €1.50–1.95/kg. Four things move the figure inside those ranges — volume, collection frequency, soil level and distance from the plant.
The number worth budgeting against is cost per occupied room or per cover, not per kilogram. We work that out during the free on-site survey, and the written quote is built around it.
What is your turnaround time?
Standard turnaround is 24 to 48 hours: linen collected in the morning returns on the next scheduled delivery. Collection days are fixed when the contract starts and do not move through the season.
If a property regularly needs same-day return, tell us during the survey — it usually means the circulating stock is too thin rather than that the laundry is too slow, and adding a par is cheaper than paying for express processing.
What happens if linen comes back stained or damaged?
Batches are inspected under controlled light before they are wrapped, so items with surviving stains go back for re-treatment rather than out to a guest room. If something reaches you that should not have, we collect it, reprocess it and return it at our cost.

How do I switch from my current laundry?
It is more routine than it looks. We survey the property and count the existing stock, agree collection days and par levels, run the first two weeks in parallel with your current arrangement where you want the safety margin, then take over fully.
Nothing has to happen on a changeover night, and there is no lock-in to sign before you have seen the quality of a real batch.
